AP Calculus AB and BC
Course Description
Students in these courses are encouraged strongly to take the AP Calculus AB or BC exam in May. AP Calculus AB and BC are generally equivalent to the first semester of a college calculus course, with AP Calculus BC also equivalent to the subsequent single-variable calculus course. These courses follow the advanced placement course description as outlined by The College Board. The courses integrate as many concepts as possible by using a functional and graphical approach to explore the topics of limits, derivatives, integrals, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, and series (BC only). This approach is reinforced through extensive use of the graphing calculator. A graphing calculator is required for this course (see the list of acceptable calculators at collegeboard.org).
